Artist's Comments

In 1861 Queen Victoria’s husband Albert died. He meant a great deal to her and often gave her guidance. For a long period Victoria was in great sadness and tucked away from the public. When she returned to the public's eye, she helped start the industrial revolution.

What did she do while she was away, mourning the loss of her husband?

greetings from 2009 me:

I was digging through some old files, and finally found a hi-res copy of this. I think what was causing the problem, was that it was in CMYK.

After 7 years, I still like this illustration. some of you may think I'm lazy for not changing my main page and putting a new featured illustration up, but to be honest, i don't feel that I have yet achieved something fully better than this.

I am lazy, but fortunately not for that reason. ;)

I've definitely achieved a better technical skill and i could now paint the pants (or dress, har har) off of this piece, but nothing I have finished since has had the combination of depth, execution, and originality that this piece has.

some day I will beat it, and there have been some close calls, but still to this day, I do not feel that I have equaled this piece. Not that it's a glorious work of modern art, up there with the greats. not even close. but for me, It's good. Maybe even great.

I will take you down some day Queenie! and god save you then!

1st. that is an awsome picture.

full size image? it didn't open for me? what's up with that?

also [link] google says you aren't lying. ten years. damn.

I wan't my woman to be an intgral part in the Irish Potato famine and not care about the millions lost and then CRY for ten years over me. That irony is so perfect.

I see how dues Ex Machina plays along those lines. god, father, husband, her life, and then machinery.

but I don't see it meaning, what it actually means. how the real meaning fits in. the idea that something comes out of no where to save you. Do you feel it fits? if so how.

as to the art itself I think it's gorgeous. thanks for helping me learn today. I love the shading and the style. and if there was a better resolution I would talk about the detail. cuz it looks good.

thanks for linking me back to your stuff.

i have no idea why the full sized version isn't working. i've tried several times to repost it, but it never loads the big version. i'll keep trying though, its definatly worth it, it has a lot of nice textures and washes of color that turned out realy cool.

This is one of my fav.'s! The colors really set the mood. The detail is very nice as well.
Good job Kabooby!
