female viking by chrislazzer female viking by chrislazzer
yay! i finally got a finished illustration done! it's been awhile since i've done one outside of work.

so here she is, a female warrior that's not showing her boobies!!

i was basically going for a simple piece showing off the character. i've always had a hard time not showing every part of the figure, but after re-studying Frazetta for a bit i realized that he rarely shows feet. their usually blended into the environment or obstructed by something.

if he were a lesser artist, i would have wrote it off as lazyness or a lack of skill, but i think it really helps to ground the figure and make them part of the environment.

did you feel that? we just had a moment...

overall I'm pretty happy with this piece. there's nothing mind blowing about it, but i feel like it's a simple and solid illustration.

let me know what you guys think!

hurray! now I'll have some confidence again for a few days (until i start the next drawing).

update: This image was purchased for the card game Untold. [link]

Hello, my name is Patrick Hogg; I am an occupational therapy assistant at Madigan Army Medical Center. I am emailing you to ask for written permission to use your design “female viking” in a behavioral health group I am designing for active duty military service members to help understand and develop coping skills to improve function. The Group goes over Joseph Campbell's hero's journey stages where the service member writes his or her own heroes journey story. Our hope is to use your design to empower the military service members who are struggling with traumas and hardships from their past. If you have any questions please email me at

Thank you for your time.

I'm super flattered by this! I don't think this will be a problem. Also, I'm a huge Joseph Campbell fan!

she looks a bit more like a celt then a viking but its incredible anyways, this is one of the best viking illustrations i have ever seen. really good work.

This is too cool.

The armor is detailed and looks functional (no exposed skin, not overly ornate or complicated).
The body proportions are realistic, and aren't overly dramatized.
You even forego the historically inaccurate horned helmet.

Well done.

Awesome, I really love the armor. And her Mohawk. Especially the Mohawk.

Thanks! If memory serves, you're the first to point out that detail.

as stated below it looks more like a celtic, just a lil fact, the irish celts used female warriors aswell
Niobesnuppa Featured By Owner Mar 19, 2013
It looks nice, but in all honesty, she does not look like a Viking. Let's see, first of all she has a mohawk (Vikings, both male and female, typically had long well groomed hair, never mohawks), her armour looks Roman, and she's wearing Celtic facial paint. It may be worth mentioning that Vikings hardly ever wore armour at all because armour was insanely expencive so only the upper class could afford it, and even they just wore some chain mail and a helmet, nothing super fancy. There is literally nothing Viking about this picture aside from the background. Sorry, but it's the truth.
Still, like I said, it looks nice, the amount of detail is impressive and I can tell you put a lot of effort into it.

Looks just like my Skyrim Character.... Awesome!

Not bad, but that looks to me like a Celt...or Sarmatian to be more precise lol

Love it. Your viking is visibly female without having to show everything. Her armor looks actually protective. Excellent work.

I die of eternal love for this picture! (a slight exaggeration)
Truly wonderful, and the detail with the feet, I see how it makes the character more a part of the picture. Her armor, while maybe not similar to something a viking would've worn at all, is quite the wonderwork. Now, I'm not an artist myself, so this is pure noob-chatting, but the details and the body's position is just so damn well made, I end up gleering so intensely at the screen that my eyes burn! (admittedly, that was another exaggeration).
While you might have noticed yourself, or not, as it might as well be me being stupid too, her right arm seems to be a little too far behind, if i daresay. Yet that might be the noob in me speaking
all in all, a huge 5/6 (lack of details in background does make this a 5 and not 6, even though I love the background too and how it all fits together)
and then, le dernier ÚnoncÚ (hopefully correct French for "the last statement): I apology for commenting so late, I'm not even sure if you're going to see this! If so, I might just have wasted some poor random fucker's time... (I apologize if that should be the case)

Viking? This looks way more Iron age Pict then Nordic(tattoo's, hair, detailing). Apart from the body Armour. We never had that. But damn brilliant artwork.

I LOVE her. So tough and strong and it would totally not make sense for her boobs to hang-out in that weather.

I love this piece. It's just so amazing, and the fact that she is wearing a full suit of armour, and NOT flaunting her boobies everywhere (as if they'd get you out of trouble. What are they going to do, giggle the enemy to death?) so that is a major plus! Another thing that got me was her FACE. It's beautiful, not false or seductive like others try to portray their so called 'warriors', she's fierce and obviously a force to reckon with. I reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalllly like this piece, and I am so happy that you took your time out of your day to create it and post it on deviant art. You continue to give those people around you constant inspiration by your wonderful pieces. Well, that's it for me. Again, thank you sooo much!

She is very nice, but I think she looks more like a Pict than a Viking.

I'm in the middle of drawing a space viking and was having some trouble finding a depiction of true viking style. Since I found this drawing of yours, I've checked it three times for some details and inspiration. Thank you, mate, i'll be sure to give you due credit once I post the final artwork here.

Great character, and the background fits yet blends into the overall feeling rather than clashing against the main cast. I rather appreciate that the woman is fully clothed - a welcome change, which makes the piece even more interesting because the focus is on her attitude rather than on her... assets.

The armor design is not half-bad either. A big thumbs up overall !

very nice, just found it via google
I'm a bit sick of the typical "huge-boob fantasy girl warrior" with basically no armor...
nice reference for skyrim armor *g*

I love this...very unique. I love her intense look and stature of ferocity with the battle wear on her armor. Asymmetrical armor has always been a favorite of mine, and the contrast of the foreground and background is amazing. It looks like multiple media layering. Nice work!

Ah, you're right! It does ground her pretty well! I love the outfit and the woad. The shield looks a little weird, but maybe that's just the angle.

I'm more impressed with this piece because it seems more realistic; women viking would wear just as much protective armor, not wearing skimpy outfits revealing their boobs and legs all the time xD
This is just a lot more impressive in my opinion :3
